At OPAL, the past few months have been filled with inspiring opportunities to place God’s Word and Christian resources into the hands of people who are eager to receive them. Here are some highlights from our recent ministry activities around the world.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, three boxes of Bibles were recently delivered to Pastor Ify Obi in Nigeria. His response filled us with joy:
“Thank you so much for your prayers, encouragement, and the three boxes of Bibles which I have distributed. I wish you could see how happy people are; some even received their Bibles with tears of joy. We are eternally grateful and pray God will bless you afresh in Jesus’ name.”
The need remains significant. Pastor Ify has requested an additional 250 Bibles along with gospel literature. If you have quality Bibles or Christian books that you no longer use, consider donating them to help equip pastors and churches around the world.
‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have’ (1 Peter 3:15).
Our Arabic ministry partners had a unique opportunity to do this at the Cairo International Book Fair, January 21st - February 3rd. 6.2 million visitors came to the exhibition and our colleagues sold books and shared the gospel with Islamic publishers, Muslims from various backgrounds, orthodox priests and Catholic nuns. OPAL’s, ‘Knowing the Holy Spirit’ was one of the books on sale which sparked interest and good conversations.
Many people were hungry for God’s Word, despite the consequences. One woman who purchased Christian books carefully wrapped them in brown paper, fearful of how her father would react if he discovered what she had bought. Please pray for her – and for all who took books home – that these resources would point them to Jesus.
OPAL continues to support translation projects that make biblical resources available to communities with limited access to Christian materials. Being able to read books in your own language, makes all the difference in the world - especially to people in the Basque region.
Euskara is possibly Europe’s oldest surviving language and is unrelated to any other known language. And for Basque people, fiercely proud of their independence, it is central to their identity.
Traditionally Catholic but now one of the most secular parts of France and Spain, many people have never even met an evangelical Christian. To help resource evangelism in the region OPAL, together with ministry partners, translated ‘Knowing the Good News’. This book is now being used in one-to-one conversations and small group discussions to share the gospel with unbelievers and help new Christians build a firm foundation for their faith.
Every donated Bible, Christian book, prayer, and financial gift helps open doors for ministry across the globe. Together, we are seeing lives changed, churches strengthened, and people encounter the hope of Jesus through the written word.
